Snowdrift.coop Roadmap

This is a high-level overview of our path toward launch. The team resources page lists the tools we use.

Some items are prioritized for a particular time period (phase); others will be as we get closer to working on them. We mostly do not change the plan mid-phase, but allow for some (clearly marked) “belated additions”.

Bold items are critical to launching

Current Phase: Q3.2 ending 2020-09-30

  • Communicate our priority decisions for Bylaws (co-op structure and more) to team, community, outside advisors, and then lawyer (wolftune)
  • Draft complete list of roles we’re reasonably confident are needed to cover all necessary domains for launching (wolftune + Salt)
  • Figure out what we need from a decision-making process (wolftune + alignwaivers)

Design and development

Infrastructure

  • Finish moving all public-facing sites to osuosl hosting (in time for Aug 26th cert deadline) (smichel17)
  • Close down AWS (wolftune)
  • Get CiviCRM into a usable state (Salt)

Community and outreach

  • Recruit good candidate projects (Salt)
  • Decide whether we want to keep/drop/add any social media accounts (Salt + alignwaivers)

    • Create a list of social media accounts with credentials (Salt + alignwaivers)
  • Write css / header-tilt blog post (smichel)
  • Draft public-focused legal statement about crowdmatching and snowdrift status etc (adroit)

Fundraising

  • Initiate conversation w/ mozilla contact(s) about Mozilla grants (alignwaivers)

These are the goals we’re working towards, and a collection of tasks that we’ll need to get to, but haven’t assigned to a phase yet.

Closed Beta

Our (closed) beta launch will happen when it’s possible to pledge real money to a few (2-3) hand-picked external projects.

Design and development

Infrastructure

  • Do a full charge for patrons overall (would like to align with another event/announcement, SotS?)

  • Document process for working with OSUOSL? (package updates, etc; process and links)
  • Finish transfer of systems to OSUOSL
    • (old) lists.snowdrift.coop page
    • Forum
    • Wiki
    • Blog
    • SeaFile?

    • NextCloud or other shared calendar system?
  • Security and auth-management audit and best-practices implementations

  • Write a business plan
  • Make plan for how to determine fundraising goals / Figure out how much money it would take to get fully launched
  • Define then recruit for grant-writer role
  • Seek out appropriate grants

Post-beta

  • SSO for Snowdrift tools (wiki, payments platform, etc)

  • Visible metrics for visitors (like how patreon puts numbers on their home page, $X moved per month!, or kickstarter’s progress bars, $x pledged of $y goal)
