Snowdrift.coop Roadmap

This is a high-level overview of our path toward launch. The team resources page lists the tools we use.

Some items are prioritized for a particular time period (phase); others will be as we get closer to working on them. We mostly do not change the plan mid-phase, but allow for some (clearly marked) “belated additions”.

Bold items are critical to launching

Current phase: Q3.1 ending 2020-08-15

  • Communicate our priority decisions for Bylaws (co-op structure and more) to team, community, outside advisors (wolftune)
  • Draft complete list of roles we’re reasonably confident are needed to cover all necessary domains for launching (wolftune)
  • Figure out what we need from a decision-making process (wolftune)
  • Invite Adroit to the team (wolftune)

  • Write at least one blog post (smichel)
  • Finish State of the Source CFP (Salt) [DONE]
  • Draft public-focused legal statement about crowdmatching and snowdrift status etc (adroit)

  • Mozilla builder (checkpoint) (alignwaivers)
    • Initiate conversation w/ mozilla contact(s) about Mozilla grants

Future Phases (draft)

Q3.2 ending 2020-09-30

  • Communicate our priority decisions for Bylaws (co-op structure and more) to team, community, outside advisors
    • Agree with lawyer on clear plan for engagement
  • Some progress (how much?) on defining and updating roles on the team
  • Decision-making process should be solid

Design and development

  • Clean up the CSS/Sass messiness that is blocking smoother site development; get all of the prototype pages ready for production
  • Any pages with complete prototype implementations, imported to production
  • Better visibility for progress of the project (someone lands on our home page — can easily get to a place that shows we’re alive).
  • Snowdrift.coop front page fleshed out for visitors - explains process (not just via video) and current project status (without needing to navigate elsewhere)
    • Updated how-it-works

Infrastructure

  • Do a full charge for patrons overall (would like to align with another event/announcement, SotS?)
    • Figure out if we can charge just team members, do so if possible
  • All public-facing sites hosted by osuosl (in time for Aug 26th cert deadline)
    • Close down aws
  • Document process for working with OSUOSL? (package updates, etc; process and links)

Community and outreach

  • Go to good candidate projects and get them on board (salt, q3.2)
  • Audit social media accounts
    • Create list with credentials

Fundraising

  • Write a business plan
    • Make plan for how to determine fundraising goals / Figure out how much money it would take to get fully launched
  • Initiate conversation w/ mozilla contact(s) about Mozilla grants

Major Milestones

These are the goals we’re working towards, and a collection of tasks that we’ll need to get to, but haven’t assigned to a phase yet.

Closed Beta

Our (closed) beta launch will happen when it’s possible to pledge real money to a few (2-3) hand-picked external projects.

  • Bylaws in place
    • With legal help, get full draft written up
    • Approve Bylaws formally (vote by initial co-op membership [how defined?])
    • Adjust governance procedures etc. to follow Bylaws going forward
  • Legal review of site policies
  • Clarity about legal relations and liabilities with outside projects
  • Solidify team governance, roles, and working process (Sociocracy adaptations etc)
